Vilinska cave from fairy tales

Vilinska cave (Vilinska pecina - The Fairy Cave) is located in the middle of the road Novi Travnik - Gornji Vakuf near village Sebesic on the slopes of Vranica mountain 20 kilometer from Novi Travnik. The cave is midsize and it is considered as one of the most beautiful caves in this area in despite that most of it's cave stone decorations is destroyed by some irresponsible visitors.

Vilinska cave is also special because of the fact that inside the cave we can find two small lakes. Some of the scientists says that we can consider this cave as first category cave considering it's scientific importance and beauty for the incoming ordinary visitors. Entrance in the cave is totally masked by beach wood trees and it is impossible to find without experienced guide. The visitor can enter the cave from the southern side in and after 30 meters in the left wing we find first bigger gallery still enlightened by the outer light. This first gallery is 40 meter long, 20 meter wide with different height between 2 and 8 meters. In this gallery we can find almost all of the different cave stone decorations but the most significant one is "the organs" that give different sounds when being hit.

Uncharted territory

In the end of this gallery we can find the abyss 15 meters deep that is very dangerous and can not be accessed without special mountaineering equipment. One woman fell down in 1951 and died on the spot.

After this hall we can enter another smaller hall 8x10x6 meters rich with cave stone decorations and here ends the left wing of the cave. There is also some smaller galleries in the right wing of the cave where is located small lake 10 meters in diameter.

The cave is very hard and dangerous for moving around and there is great need for scientific approach in cave researching and mapping. The cave is putted under state protection and the measures are taken in it's preserving from further damage.
