MTB Cycling
It was May 1. International Workers day. Some people used holiday for resting, but we chose to spend that day on our bicycles visiting the symbol of socialists workers - blacksmiths. Not any blacksmiths - but the last in Europe!
Krivaja is a river located in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, long some 70 kilometers on it's way from Olovo to Zavidovići, that is famous for it's clean water, beautiful canyon and possibilities for rafting and fishing.
Zelengora mountain with it's lakes, pastures and planes is one of the most beautiful destinations for MTB cycling in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prove for that could be the fact that 35 cyclists attended this tour three years ago.
This is a first report for this season about MTB cycling in Sarajevo region so we could say that the days of active MTB cycling in Sarajevo is ahead of us. Numerous mountains and hills around Sarajevo makes this town a desirable destination for MTB cycling lovers.
Whole southern region of the Bjelasnica mountain is one beautiful showcase of nature that sometimes interlace with legend. One of those legends is connected with Umoljani village and Studeni potok, small water stream literally translated as "Cold creek".
Bosnia and Herzegovina is proclaimed for best mountain biking (MTB) adventure destination in 2012 by the prominent magazine National Geographic. This award is well deserved, but little known in foreign cycling circles.
Bjelasnica mountain is very close to Sarajevo and with it's great cycling potential it is great place for weekend bicycle rides. This tour happened sometimes in May. Snow traces was visible on the mountains peaks, but weather was relatively warm and pleasant for ride.
Weather forecast was not so good that day so we could not decide where to go, but one was sure - don't go far from Sarajevo. Final decision was to go by car to Cavljak and after that go with bikes over Bukovik mountain to Skakavac waterfall.
This was one of the most exciting bicycle rides of this year and it's happened mainly in the Misoca river canyon. Our journey started in Sarajevo sometimes in May 2011 and the goal was to visit Misoca canyon on our bikes. Five of the participants met in Sarajevo and took a bus to the Nisici heights where was our starting point.
That was a very hot summer day in Sarajevo and thermometer was showing that the temperature was around 36 degrees Celsius. Considering the fact that temperature decrees with higher altitude only logical destination for cycling was in the mountains. Choice for that day was Sinanovici - remote village located between Bjelasnica and Visocica mountains.
