Nobody knows for sure how and when was created Studeni potok, but there is a legend, like many other legends in other nations, that is connected with dragons.
In the time when dragons lived
Saying says that in ancient times people peacefully lived in Umoljani village until one day terrible dragon came from Rakitnica canyon, climb up to the rock 400 meters high and begin with chasing of locals. Dragon was very big and has a snake shaped body. Today we can see his movement in the strange shape of water stream where we can find today Studeni potok or "Cold creek". Shape of the creek looks so similar to the snake movement in sand.
Legend continue and says that villagers escaped to the nearby hill called Posiljak and prayed there to the God to protect them against the dragon. Prayers was answered and dragon was petrified in the stone on the Posiljak hill. Even today visitors can see strange shape in the massive rock that looks like a dragon.
Watermills and old tombstones
But if we put aside these legends there is a undeniable fact that this region is one amazing place to visit. Beside the wonderful creek that falls for some 400 meters until met with Rakitnica river and it's beautiful canyon there is also seven wonderful watermills used for centuries in preparation of flour. Near Umoljani visitor can see a mosque specific with it's minareth for those high ground areas with a lot of snow. There is also a lot of ancient tombstones characteristic for Bosnia and Herzegovina called "stecak".
For all of that it is worth visiting that place - but peace and natural beauty interrupted with sounds of eagles and gentle wind blows that brigs you the scent of the flowers is even more attractive for a visitor. Villagers are more than willing to greet the guests with open hearts and original old national food.
