Sarajevo MTB cycling season is opened

This is a first report for this season about MTB cycling in Sarajevo region so we could say that the days of active MTB cycling in Sarajevo is ahead of us. Numerous mountains and hills around Sarajevo makes this town a desirable destination for MTB cycling lovers.

Cold winter this year with a high amounts of snow was a main difficulty and reason for postponing of this year's biking season. Last year, for example, was normal to see some cyclist on their way to Trebevic mountain even in January.

Dariva and Zmajevac viewpoint

At the beginning of photo album you can see a huge amounts of snow at Dariva that lasted till this day, more than a month since it's fall in February. Dariva is a famous place for family walking, cycling or even rock climbing after the work or during the weekends. It is located almost on the edge of the city center near Miljacka river.

After Dariva our ride continue near Moscanica river to the Zmajevac, nice viewpoint over Sarajevo. When it is sunny and clear day you can see a whole Sarajevo from Zmajevac with Bjelasnica and Igman mountains in the distance. At Zmajevac we are half way to the Grdonj - our destination for today.

Grdonj as cycling destination

Grdonj is one of the highest hills (930 meters) near Sarajevo and it's position and height is ideal for radio and TV towers. There you can enjoy in a nice view on Sarajevo but also in a small nature park with 130 different tree species, walking paths and covered benches for resting. 

At the end of the album you can see some pictures of Kovači graveyard and Miljacka river before sunset.
