Krivaja river canyon cycling tour

Krivaja is a river located in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, long some 70 kilometers on it's way from Olovo to Zavidovići, that is famous for it's clean water, beautiful canyon and possibilities for rafting and fishing.

Krivaja is also specific river like Drina river that creates our eastern border with Serbia. Drina river doesn't have a spring or source, but it is created by joining two rivers - Tara and Piva.

Olovo - city on three rivers

Similar situation is with Krivaja that is created by joining Stupčanica and Bioštica rivers right in the city of Olovo. Citizens of Olovo are very proud for the fact that Olovo lays on three big rivers with very clean water. Absence of big pollutants makes Krivaja one of the cleanest rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During thousands of years Krivaja carved it's magnificent canyon between slopes of Zvijezda and Konjuh mountains.

Krivaja river rapids

Lonely road in the canyon

This canyon was a logical choice for building a road that will connect Olovo and Zavidovići cities. In some places this is a very narrow road with a vertical rocks on one side and white water of Krivaja river on the other side. It is quite unpleasant situation when you confront the truck with a car on that road so most of the drivers avoid that road which makes is ideal for cyclists to enjoy in beautiful nature with a sound of the river that follows them on their way. It is a very good asphalt road that is mostly flat and suitable for 7 to 77 years old cyclists.

Wire bridge on Krivaja river

Everybody could ride his bicycle there and choose a suitable destination for him. This route is rich with a lot of fountains with drinkable water, villages with grocery stores (you don't have to carry everything on your back) and a numerous resting places on both sides of the river.

Great place for resting

On our ride we went 33 kilometers from Olovo to the bridge over river Krivaja with a nice park on the river banks. Nearby we found a fountain with a strong and cold water. Our ride turned into picnic with some chicken meat, sausages and salad made of tomatoes, onions and sour cream.
Some people like to cross great distances with their bikes, to overcome the uphills, however, we wanted on this tour to enjoy the river and good food. The plan was a total success :)
